Training Health Professions' Students
Encouraging students to consider practicing in rural and other medically underserved areas is integral to the AHEC mission. By arranging clinical training opportunities, regional AHECs provide students with first hand experience. AHECs identify and train preceptors. They also provide housing, travel expenses, and/or provide other educational and logistical support to students who participate in these exceptional clinical training experiences.
Health Professions' Student Placement Opportunities
Utah AHEC supports health professions' students' clinical training in medically underserved areas. This includes most of Utah's rural communities and select urban clinics. This support may include some mileage reimbursement and housing subsidy.
Students must complete an application available from the Utah AHEC office at the University of Utah (1C26SOM). Applications should be submitted at least six weeks prior to the placement start date. Clinical training is available through the local AHEC offices (see web pages for more specific information regarding training sites).
